Even a MINOR structural difference can have a MAJOR visual impact.

These two boxes are identical in every way except for one small difference. In Box 1, the front diagonal edges are straight. In Box 2, they're slightly curved.

The straight diagonal edges of Box 1 make it frown. The slightly curved diagonal edges of Box 2 make it smile. It actually appears that they're altogether different boxes.

Given the major impact that a very minor structural difference can create, it's easy to understand how structural modification can dramatically enhance such marketing activities as image-building, brand-building, and differentiation-building.
