Healthy Food Watchdogs Now onto Pizza

The May 27, 2002, edition of Nation's Restaurant News contains an article on page two titled “CSPI blasts pizza's fat levels, urges diet curbs.”

It says: “The CSPI (Center for Science in the Public Interest) … measured the calories, fat, saturated fat, trans fat and sodium in servings of pizza from 36 pizzerias in Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles. The study also included data provided by the Pizza Hut, Domino's, Little Caesars and Papa John's chains…. The report gave favorable ratings to Papa John's Original Crust Garden Special and Pizza Hut's Veggie Lover's items but condemned that chain's cheese-stuffed crusts and Insider double-crust item with an extra layer of cheese. CSPI officials also said eating the usual quarter-pizza portion was like consuming a second Big Mac or performing ‘reverse liposuction’ on oneself.”
